  2. Take this class with Fernandez if you want to whip your spanish into shape. You really do cover everything in beginning grammar; unfortunately the spacing of the class means that you spend as much time on the present tense in the first couple of weeks (super easy) as you do in the past subjunctive, conditional and future in the last two weeks (near to impossible.) But Fernandez is incredible, in my opinion a true Middlebury Great. Class is constantly fun; he somehow manages to get everyone talking and laughing, even at 9am. More importantly, he teaches very effectively and will explain something an infinite number of ways is necessary. If you work hard, you will take an enormous amount from this course.
  3. I'll be honest: I really dislike learning languages. I am a biology student. I won't ever need to write hispanic literary criticism, but I'd like to learn to speak the language. Miguel is an awesome professor, so if you're into languages then DEFINITELY take a class with him! He's super nice and even though this was accelerated (and thus moved REALLY fast) it wasn't difficult once you get in the rhythm of things. Be warned though, once you get beyond this class you won't ever work on your speaking skills again, so if you want to learn to speak a language at middlebury you might as well stop taking classes now and make a spanish speaking friend or go to language school. The classes will teach you to write literary criticism and watch movies, but not much else.
  4. This class is really hard. Be prepared to work!
  5. This class did not introduce too many new concepts but Fernandez does a good job making it fun. We got a lot of practice speaking.
