  3. I'm not quite sure I learned anything from this course. Wilson's lectures were ok, but every paper or exam was based off a book. There was no point in attending any lecture, and I attended every one. Wilson is NEVER available for help and doesn't even show up to his office hours. I've never had a professor or even heard of a professor who does that. He also does not care to ask anyone's name, cancels class to play golf, and feels that he is too superior to even give course evaluations. Even professors who have been at Middlebury for 45 years and are about to retire give course evaluations at the end of class. Besides that, there are about 5 quizzes that consist of memorizing Lincoln's speeches and writing them out on a piece of paper. Pretty sure I"m not in 5th grade and memorizing a speech only to forget it 20 minutes later serves no purpose. This class was a waste of the $52,000 of Middlebury tuition. Don't waste your time.
  4. i am shocked by the other reviews of this class. kit is probably the smartest person i have met during my time here. i have taken as many courses with him as possible. i loved this course and really learned a lot. i think kit is a wealth of information and shares such interesting and relevant stories. i realize not everyone loves the memorizing that goes into the course, but i thought it connected me to my american ancestors and their education. I LOVE KIT WILSON AND RECOMMEND THIS COURSE TO ANY STUDENT WHO REALLY WANTS TO LEARN ABOUT THE CIVIL WAR!!!!! he really really really is the man.
  5. Professor Wilson's glory days are over. I don't see why some other students have raved about him in the past other than his occasional amusing story that he shares. I felt that Kit dumbs down his lectures, and it was offensive that he does not care to learn anyone's names. He speaks to the class as if he is lecturing to a group of kids in middle school. Some of his assignments are utterly ridiculous (such as the countless number of memorizing speeches and regurgitating them onto a piece of paper at the beginning of almost every class). He does not specify guidelines for assignments, and then criticizes exams and papers if they do not adequately fulfill the requirements he neglects to share. He never gives a breakdown of the grades on the syllabus. My final grade was significantly lower than I had expected. I had As and even A+s on all of the quizzes and the midterm while I had one B on one short quiz. Kit gave me a B in the class. Besides my dissatisfaction with my grade, I felt that his lectures were an utter waste of time. I don't see why students think he's such an easy professor since every single class we met, we either had a quiz, pop quiz, exam, or a paper due. I'm still wondering what all the fuss is over this professor.
