Evaluation Comments for Ganiban R

  1. This was one of my favorite courses this semester. It's really chill and not too much work-- 2 essays, a midterm, a final and weekly response papers. The first half of the semester was really interesting and then we learn about the art/architecture which wasn't that interesting to me but it's not that bad. Ganiban is super nice and friendly and is always available for extra help. I went to him before every essay and discussed my outline with him which helped a lot. This class also fulfills a lot of distribution requirements so it's worth your time!

  3. This course is really interesting and honestly required not a lot of work. There are 2 papers, a midterm, a final, and weekly response papers. Ganiban is kind of a bit picky about specific details regarding the midterm and finals so make sure you know everything but even without that it's not too hard to get a B+ or A-. Ganiban is super nice and friendly. I went to him before every essay to make sure my outline was correct and got A's on them. This course also fulfills a lot of distribution requirements so that's a plus!

  6. Strange course. Everybody took it because we thought it would be a gem and it turned out to be kind of challenging. The material is really straightforward and so are the the themes but Ganiban is a harder grader than we expected. Instead of it being an easy A, it was an easy B+. The first half of the semester is cool and the second half sucks. Ganiban is a good guy and the class was not a headache for me. Take it.
  7. The class I was in had about 40 kids, yet there were only around 25 who showed up each class period. It is a really easy course, I did not read anything or do any homework since the first week, and I got an A- on my first paper and a B on my midterm. Each class is a struggle to stay awake, it gets painfully boring after the first 2 weeks of class until the final two weeks. If you are looking for a class that describes gladiators and wars, do not take this class. If you are really facinated with the geneology of Augustus' family, or his famed manumission laws, this is the class for you. I would recomend this class if you need a 4th joke class, or if you are the type of student who does not do any work until 48 hours before the tests or papers.
  8. Ganiban is great and the class is interesting
  9. This class is a gem- incredibly easy but soooo boring. Whoever said that its not about gladiators didn't do it justice at all- this class realllly drags ass at times. Ganiban is a really nice guy and a good lecturer but presents really boring information bc the class is on Augustus, not Rome
  10. The material was fascinating, and Ganiban's interest in it was obvious through his engaging lecture style. If you do the reading and participate in class, getting a good grade should be no problem.
  11. Ganiban is a great professor. one of the best that I have had at Midd. He covers all of the material in an interesting and easy to understand way. There were 2 papers and 2 exams and weekly 1 paragraph responses. All were very fair and interesting to complete. Ganiban really seems like he wanted his students to succeed. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone, even if roman history isn't your thingry
  12. Randy's the man.
  13. Ganiban is a great professor, very enthusiastic and friendly. This is not the most challenging course you will take at Middlebury, but I for one thought it was really neat reading the actual documents on which our modern historical understanding of Augustus is based. A couple of the readings are on the long, dry side but most are pretty enjoyable. You will probably be in the majority if you elect to skip some reading, and will probably come out just fine. The tests are not too bad and I think Ganiban is too nice to give a bad grade to anyone who puts a little effort in.
  14. Lots of fun. I really enjoyed this class. It isn't too hard, and the lectures have good material in them but can be a little boring at times.
  15. Ganiban is one of the nicest professors you'll have at Middlebury. Any help you need in the course is only an email away and he is very sympathetic towards heavy work loads (ie He'll almost always give an extension). I found the class itself fascinating and extremely interesting. The lectures almost entirely cover what was in the reading, though you'll need to do the reading for the pspers. Great course for anyone with an interest in history.
  16. Got lower grades than I thought I expected. Somewhat of a hard class, although the material is very interesting. Ganiban isn't very exciting...
  17. Ganiban will not hesitate to blow your mind with his beautiful brain and the gorgeous nest of flowing locks that sits upon it. Take this class and introduce yourself to ganiban's shiny flow heralded throughout the ages as 'hair of the gods', often referred to as a sign of virility and ability to teach about the manliest men to come around in the last 3 thousand years: Augustus and his boys. RG will not dissapoint, as Agrippa told sextus pompey before he served him up to the gods in the battle of pharsalus.
  18. Ganiban is the man. This class is good if your interested in Rome and/or looking for a relaxed class. It is an intro class so don't expect the material to be extremely interesting. Ganiban is a good professor and an enthusiastic lecturer. He also has the best head of hair I've seen at Midd.
