  3. Outstanding course. Cohen has an incredible way with words and original, engaging approach to the course books. It's quite easy to do none of the reading and get a fine grade, but when you have access to a professor like Cohen, why would you? You'll read about a book a week, but they are all novels, and not too dense. 3 papers, in total about 20 pages for the semester. Enjoy!
  4. Wow
  5. Cohen is fantastic, take any class with him. He is hilarious, intelligent, and passionate about the literature he asks you to read. Listening to him lecture (rare in this class, it's virtually all discussion) was fascinating. The workload is light, which is great in your first semester. He's also very understanding, and happy to chat with you, even though you're just a wide-eyed freshman and the New York Times is reviewing his books. If you don't do the work you'll be okay, but you're missing out on some life altering, interesting stuff. Cohen has some really profound things to say, and you'll get a lot out of joining in on the discussions. Cohen is a gentleman and scholar. Ask him about that oceanic feeling..
  6. Cohen is a great teacher and is very friendly and personable. If taking this as a first year seminar, be warned that he is clueless when it comes to being an academic advisor (he says it all the time in class) but he is a great person to talk to just about life in general. He speaks quite eloquently and it's quite obvious that he is a writer himself, a true pleasure to listen to in class. There were several papers throughout the course and if you don't leave them to the last minute then you should be fine. The books are pretty good too however this course is quite heavy on reading. Hope that you get a good group of classmates that are interested in talking and having good discussions (something that I missed out on in my class).
