Evaluation Comments for Martinez-Lage

  1. Introductory language courses at Middlebury are amazing. You learn so much in such a short period of time and you really feel like you get a good understanding of the language. Ana Martinez-Lage wrote the book and therefore knows the text incredibly well. Sometimes the text doesn't fully explain a grammar concept, but Ana Martinez usually complemented the text in class rather than just reiterating the book. Preparation time is usually under an hour, but class does meet every day so you have to stay on top of your work or you can quickly fall behind. Homeworks are usually just grammar exercises in the workbook that accompanies the text. There are a couple short writing assignments that really allow you to synthesize your Spanish knowledge and the final project will require you to give a presentation in front of the class. Overall, it's a great experience but try to take it with someone other than Ana Martinez because both in and out of the classroom she can be cold and heartless. Don't ask for favors, extensions or extra help because she will probably say no and give you attitude about it. Most students agree that she's a good teacher but is too cold to be a great teacher.
  2. AML very intelligent and a good teacher, but not very helpful when you need her.
  3. You learn an unbelievable amount of Spanish in one semester and Anna Martinez-Lage is incredible. I was legitimately sad when this class was over.
  4. martinez-lage is an excellent professor. on the side, she studies how people learn languages, so she knows how to teach them as well. she also wrote the textbook, so she knows how to teach it. she isn't an easy teacher, but she's very good.
  5. AML is very intelligent, but generally cold and unwilling to help you unless you beg her. A good teacher, but by no means amazing...
