  1. I would only take this if you are a spanish major and enjoy learning about obscure types of literature. I took this to fulfill a general spanish requirement for the IS major and thought the class was basically pointless. Overall I realized I have no interest in crime fiction and this class will in no way help me later in life. Jimena is nice and seems to know a lot about the topic but she is the type of person who calls on you in class when she knows you don't know the answer or aren't paying attention. The papers were not difficult and she is a fairly fair grader.
  2. This is a fun class and a very different way of looking at Hispano-american literature. The texts that we read were simply novels, not some abstract, obscure theory that was difficult to understand. It was short, to the point and consice. Jimena does a good job of presenting theoretical information with powerpoints and handouts, so that you're not lost. The exam will be easy if you take notes in class and pay attention to the discussion questions. There is no final paper, and so you just have to concentrate on a good topic for the 3 essays that you'll write throughout the semester. For an 8 am class, it was surprisingly fun and Jimena is alwys there to help if you don't understand something or if you want to discuss a paper topic, etc.
  3. This is a fascinating course that allows you to delve into a dfferent realm of Spanish Literature. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who is taking it as a requirement and not truly interested in the topic.
