Evaluation Comments for Bertolini J

  1. John Bertolini is hilarious, insightful, and remarkably well-read. You read three works: Canterbury Tales, Macbeth, and Paradise Lost. Every class begins with a group discussion of the assigned reading, and JBert doesn't speak until everyone has contributed (though he breaks this rule sometimes to his dismay). This structure makes you very accountable for your reading, but you will probably keep up because you want to. The discussion also helps you gain a greater respect for and closeness with your classmates. I looked forward to this class every day.

  4. Bertolini is AMAZING. Brilliant man. I took this class on a whim and loved it. The reading is fascinating and Bertolini will bring the text to life. Probably my favorite class at Midd so far. Excellent professor!
  5. Bertolini is outrageously passionate which is cool to a degree. He is a very tough grader when it comes to papers which is surprising from the friendly and laidback impression he gives off in class. Don't be deceived by his goofy nature, he's tough.
  6. Amazing Professor. Bertolini really knows his stuff and you will learn a lot.
  7. Professor Bertolini was very enthusiastic about the material and fostered a friendly atmosphere for discussions.
  8. I went into class as a senior science major. I had the worst grade I've ever gotten for my first paper. Thankfully, I went to see prof. bertolini and talked to him for a tremendous chunk of time about the passages, reading, whatever. I enjoyed this class tremendously and I wish I had taken english classes before. I wish Prof. Bertolini didn't wait so long to talk in discussions (he holds off until everyone has said something) as I elarned much more from him than from my classmates. An amazing class, this and APR are two of the classes I would require of anybody at Middlebury. Take it, you'll be thrilled.
