Evaluation Comments for Humbert, B

  1. I enjoyed this class. It's a really great freshman seminar, although I do agree with the other person that we make the same comments about almost every pair of films (French and American) we analyze. The class consists of three papers and a final oral presentation, and each of the 3 papers focused on the same thing, so it was a bit repetitive. Prof. Humbert is a very sweet lady, although I do not agree with the way she likes papers to be written. For a 6 page paper, for example, she wanted one idea per paragraph. My thesis (and most students') had three ideas. Therefore, the paper would consist of an intro., 3 LONGGGG paragraphs, and an introduction. I do not think that is good writing, but she insisted of having our papers be in this format.
  2. After taking "Women in French Historical Films" with Prof Humbert, I found this class to be extraordinarily boring and redundant. It was very interesting to analyze the first pair of films but, because the class lacked a proper structure, the rest of the semester was pretty dull as students kept on making the same comments for every other pair. If you are fascinated by the topic, then try and take it. Otherwise, don't waste your time.
