Evaluation Comments for Wolfson R

  1. No Comment
  2. Do not take this course unless you have a background in environmental science. The problems sets are long and tedious and you must do the work on a computer in the library. Although Wolfson appears nice and helpful at first, he is very rigid and inflexible. This class is really about the science of climate change. Very difficult and Wolfson is a tough grader. stay away from this class
  3. STAY AWAY!! The people who thought this class was easy are all ES majors who were already familiar with terminology and concepts. Wolfson was an impossible grader and like many other students, my final grade was MUCH LOWER than I had ever imagined. I thought it would be an interesting and laid back ES course, but it KILLED MY GPA. Though Wolfson would sit in his office avaible to speak, he was reluctant to really help and explain concepts the way every other professor at Midd does. Every time I look at my transcript, I curse Wolfson and this course for destroying it.
  4. Prof. Wolfson was my favorite prof. last year. Very passionate about his classes which makes for a great learning environment.
  5. Excellent class. Wolfson did a great job of making your typically left brained ES major do a little math. Although Calculus was a pre-req for this course, there were only a few derivatives and integrals here in there, and most of the math was very basic. The content of the class included a detailed look at the greenhouse effect, radiative forcing, feedback mechanisms, and culminated with a computer modeling assignment, which when given an amount of energy from anthropogenic sources can predict the temperature. Every friday there is "Journal Club," in which all students do a 15 min lecture summarizing a recent journal article about climate change, which ranged from polar bear declines to political analysis of a hydrogen economics. The workload is pretty mellow, 1 assignment due every week, and 3 exams, none of which are too bad if you do the assignments.
