Evaluation Comments for Tropp J

  1. No Comment
  2. Definitely consider this course. It's fun, interesting and well worth the work put in!
  3. Tropp is awesome! very good class
  4. This class is very good. Tropp makes lectures and discussions fun and really knows the material well. Tropp is a tough grader however. If you take this class, I highly recommend meeting with him about your papers. Also beware on the ID sections of exams; Tropp is really picky about answers and doesn't clearly outline what an 'A' response is. Like others, I walked away from the midterm thinking I nailed only to realized that he had knocked a point off for all my ids which any other professor would have given complete credit for.
  5. Prof Trop is a good guy, but not that easy to work with. His office hours weren't very often or very helpful. I enjoyed the class, but it's not that easy.
  6. When I first took this class I was estatic: it seemed easy and fun and as someone else said I thought I nailed the midterm. Wrong, my mid-term came back at C+, I just hadn't known what he wanted. He's a fun guy so the class if fun but beware the class is harder than it appears.
  7. Great class. It took me a while to get interested in history from 800 years ago, but I ended up liking the material and really enjoying Tropp's lectures. Can't wait to take Hist. of Modern Africa next spring.
  8. Professor Tropp is a very friendly guy. He cracks jokes in class and makes the atmosphere in both class and discussion very light and friendly. The workload is not that bad. He is a pretty stringent grader on essays. Very good class.
  9. Prof Tropp is a great guy, as someone said above he makes the atmosphere of the class appealing by cracking subtle jokes. A lot of the material is really interesting. His grading on the papers was fair. Be aware of the exams though, I studied for hours for the midterm and ended up with a C. Be SPECIFIC on the IDs.
  10. Professor Tropp is an organized lecturer with a hand out of key terms for each class (which comprises the list of possible identify questions on midterms and finals). He's funny, engaging, and knows his stuff.
  11. I only took this for an "other" credit, so if you have a targeted interest in African studies, you may not want to put as much stock in my review. I didn't like the way the material was organized (jumped back and forth in time periods). I thought I did a good job in the course. I thought I had nailed the midterm and the first paper. But he's extremely picky about his exams so it seems like even if you wrote pages on an ID he'd still find something missing. My papers had nothing but positive comments written on them, but still it came back with a B+. Frustrating.
