Evaluation Comments for Tropp J

  1. This class filled a gaping hole in my educational experience, and I found every lecture fascinating. Tropp is one of the toughest graders I have had at Midd, but once i got over the fact that i wasnt going to get an A, i found it so nice to have a professor expect excellence! I learned so much more and used myself so much harder than I would have in a more relaxed class.
  2. Professor Tropp can be a difficult grader, however the challenge is well worth it; he is extremely knowledgable and is an excellent lecturer. A lot of content is covered from day to day, but he does a solid job organizing and contextualizing new information. Papers and tests were difficult to do extremely well on but were always straightforward. Overall I enjoyed this class a lot, not just because of the interesting material but because of Tropp's teaching style, which I felt was very effective.
  3. Somewhat interesting course. Professor Tropp is an incredibly tough grader. Lectures are boring and hard to pay attention to. I personally would not take another class with Tropp.

  5. tropp is brilliant, super enthusiastic, and an awesome lecturer. he is engaging, there arent that many papers or readings, and there isnt a final research project. really interesting subject matter, and very relevant. he is a very hard grader, but it was worth it.
  6. Great class! You can get by without doing all the textbook reading if you pay attention in class, but I would recommend reading the books and discussion readings because they compliment the lecture material nicely and are pretty interesting. Tropp is a great lecturer and the mid-term and final exams are very fair, although essay topics were sometimes a little boring.
  7. This class is really fascinating, and helps you to understand the important events in African History. There are two papers a midterm and a final. Watch out though because tropp can be a tough grader.
  8. This is one of the best classes I've taken at Middlebury - the material is really interesting, and Tropp is in an incredible professor. This year the course included 2 papers, a midterm, and a final; Tropp can be a difficult grader on papers, but he is very straightforward about exam material. Overall, an outstanding class
