  2. Clasby is a great guy and really engaging, but unfortunately also a bit scattered. His schedule was pretty disorganized so the reading didn't ever match up with the lectures, and papers were often assigned over things that we hadn't yet covered. He also had a lot of pointless film screenings for what was supposed to be a twice a week class. Overall, this is a good class to take if you're interested in the subject and willing to do the readings, (which aren't tested) but many of the students in my class were uninterested despite Clasby's enthusiasm. Overall a fairly easy class.
  3. Professor Clasby is a wonderful person who is very enthusiastic about history, but has a tendency to get behind in lectures and assign waaay too much reading. The powerpoints he lectured from in class were full to the brim with text, which was annoying if you were trying to write it all down, but helpful if you wanted to review the material later (all powerpoints were posted online). Grades were determined based on two take-home, untimed tests of two short (1-2 paragraph) essays and one long (4-5 paragraph) essay, as well as two longer (5-7 page) papers and a group presentation. For the first few months I tried to keep up with the reading, then gave up. We also had many screenings (with response worksheets) which added to the workload. The material was interesting, but very similar to the last part of AP Euro, which I took in high school. We ran out of time before we got the really modern stuff (post-WWII), which would have been interesting to learn about. Clasby is a great person and an interesting if not well-paced lecturer who grades fairly.
