  2. Gloria is very disorganized and never responded to a single email that I sent her. Always changing assignments at the last minute and giving ridiculous amounts of work. As others have pointed out, there is just way too much material to be covered in one semester but you are expected to know it all for exams and papers, which I think were not good evaluations of what we had learned. Tne best part was the final project in which you study any aspect of a latin american country - but even though it was very interesting, you were expected to do a presentation, write a paper, and take a final exam in the last week of class. Gross.
  3. gloria's a decent professor, but the class is SO BORING. we swept through everything that ever happened in every country in latin america in a semester, and didn't really go in depth into anything. lots of busywork. only take it if you have to for a requirement.
  4. Prof. Gonzalez is very personable and engaging, but this class was VERY boring because basically all we did was read aloud of out the Latinoamericana textbook. The class is obviously designed to prepare you for further latin american study, but even so, it tried to cover too much material (ALL of latin america!) in one semester and was just too broad.
  5. You signed up for a survey course on hispanoamerica...be prepared for a great deal of reading and writing. Weekly readings were from the professor's book (pdf's, no purchase necessary). You also summarize a news article on specific political/social/economic themes in your chosen location. The class was lacking in discussion, due to the fact that responses for Gloria's questions were quotes from her work. The discussion section was absolutely unnecessary, and was prensentation-based, not discussion itself! The material is endless; you will feel extremely knowledgeable about the area right before the final exam.
  6. I think Gloria had a crush on my and one of my buddies that was also in the class. I definitely sought her out for office hours plenty!
