  3. The class is a requisite to study in Latin America, but it's a very stupid class, you won't learn a lot here. Easy, but with a lot of pointless work (like a weekly movie). The professor can't speak Spanish very well, and everyone is uncomfortable hearing her accent, that sounds as a parody of the American student. You have classes three times a week, one movie and a discussion section (which was with Pablo, the TA, who was ok); too much for learning so little!!
  4. Overall I really didn't honestly like this class. I thought it was pretty boring and I was taking Hist 286 at the same time so a lot of the same things were covered. It will give you some good basica information though. About Kelley...I think we all knew that she meant well but I really don't think she knew anything about the topic. It seems like the spanish department just stuck her with this class. And i know its not her fault, but I think it really would have made a difference if she had been a native speaker. She was really nice though and tried to make the classes more fun. There seemed to be a lot of busy work, current event postings, movies, and unnecessary discussion sections. Take this class if you have to, it's much easier than 300 but not all that great overall.
  5. If you don't have a lot of background in Latin America, you will learn a lot in this course. However, be prepared to hand in a lot of weekly assingments. Kelley is super nice and very helpful but she doesn't have a native accent. I def. recommend this course.
  6. I think everybody is way to hard on Swarthout. At the 300, its not exactly like the students have stellar accents (at least i speak for those of us coming out of the middlebury intro spanish program). She may not be a native speaker but she knows what she's talking about. As far as material goes, the class is pretty basic; exactly what you'd expect. You will get a good grade if you do the work. Its that simple.
