Evaluation Comments for Feldman

  1. The class will definitely help you with Spanish grammar. Yet Feldman doesn't do much to try to make the grammar interesting. She also clearly made an extra effort when there were tenure people in the back of the classroom, but didn't much care to foster discussion at other points in the semester. She also - throughout the semester - added homework to the syllabus last minute. Often these extra's would take several hours later. She simply did not realize that students have other commitments. As such, the workload was insane for a class at this level. If you can, try it with a different professor.
  2. Irina Feldman is difficult and definitely makes you work. There were quizzes every time we read chapters of the book and 3 essays. But, if you put the work into it, she is really great. Even though spanish is my worst subject, I found myself enjoying class because she really got into the material and everything is interactive. I would recommend that you take this course.
  3. Feldman is excellent, but the novel Tabla de Flandes is very cheesy. The presentaciones at the end rock, though. Fair grading and a mellow work load, I'd recommend it.
  4. Irina is the nicest person ever. Sometimes she might be a bit all over the place, but she definitely tries hard to engage everybody in class, though 220 does focus a lot on grammar and it's nearly impossible to make that interesting. The novel we read was really interesting and Irina always gave space for creativity and sense of humor in presentations etc. It's fairly easy to get an A in this class.
