  2. This class was extremely difficult for an intro class. Stearns is a great professor, but he is tough and expects a lot from everyone. There are weekly blog entries which are kind of a pain, but keep you at least sort of updated on the insane amount of reading. I felt like I learned a lot from this class, but only take it if you are willing to work hard.
  3. Don't take a class with Stearns. Ever. As the other commenter wrote, he is indeed DEATHLY SARCASTIC, but in a rude, "I'm-a-new-professor-and-I-have-something-to-prove" sort of way. He's a terrible lecturer and he does not deserve to be a Middlebury professor.
  4. great class. stressfull but worth it.
  5. This course gives you a lot of information about Islam...I definitley know a lot more about Islam than the average pesron...but Stearns often jumps between points and is hard to follow.
  6. This was a great course that covered a lot of material, but in a meaningful way. The West is terribly misinformed about the Islamic tradition, and the theology and history that we studied helped to clarify my vision of the Islamic world. There are a lot of readings and the weekly response papers can take up a good amount of time, but the class is worth the extra time. Stearns is very knowledgable, means really well and is always happy to reexplain concepts when you don't understand. Stearns is brutally honest. DEATHLY sarcastic. Generally, a great guy and a great professor.
