Evaluation Comments for Perry E

  1. The class overall was fairly interesting; you engage with the films on a deeper level, and you gain a greater appreciation for film as an art form. Unfortunately, some of the readings didn't make much sense, and Perry is a dry lecturer who won't make you more engaged in the material. He is very overqualified, as the person above mentioned, and/or very burned out. As long as you do weekly discussion questions (painless), the midterm paper, and the final exam (ours was a take-home), you'll do very well. Oh, and the discussion sections are student-led. The class was filled with students looking just to fulfill a distribution requirement, but it's very easy to see why. Great if you want an easy A, not so great if you really want to engage in and learn a lot about film.
  2. it was moderately interesting, perry's a great guy and really knows his stuff (read: overqualified). unfortunately, the course seems to be sparsely populated with people who actually care about film studies and mostly by people looking for a nice grade.
