  4. This class was fascinating. Professor Hunisak is very knowledgeable and has a passion for the subject. Although it was challenging at times it is one of the best classes I have ever taken.
  5. Good cocktail hour knowledge, people! But it's also just a nice to know all that stuff. Pollock, de Kooning, Miro, Mondrian, Braque, Smith, Leger, Van Gogh etc. stop being just fuzzy names and take on new meaning. Hunisak seems to elicit wildly different reactions from students. I personally like his straightforward but a bit flamboyant style, mildly off-kilter jokes, and garish sweaters, but a lot of people find it a bit dry and old-fashioned. So whether you like him or not is really dependent on your personal style. I was also a bit grated by the discussions peppered into the lecture classes where he hands random people the pointer and they often proceed to spout off the most inane impulse that comes into their head. Overall I found the material fascinating, the group of students, stupid comments aside, very interesting, and the knowledge really valuable. Recommended.
  6. Hunisak is takes the fun out of Modern Art. Take this class with Hoving.... Recommendation from a HARC major in her senior year.
  7. Professor John Hunisak is probably the best Art History professor at Middlebury and among the best at this college. He is very intense and often intimidating, but he coaxes overly timid middlebury students to exit their comfort zone and discuss art as informed adults. He has EXTREMELY high expectations so the only way to do well in his classes is to work your butt off...the reward however, is learning and incredible breadth of knowledge taught by an incredibly intelligent (not to mention, very interesting/eccentric) man.
