Evaluation Comments for Watters C

  2. Watters is the only professor that I have had at Middlebury that I disliked. From his complete obsession with testing students on single sentences taken from 200 pages of heavy textbook reading, to mocking me after asking him a question in class - I feel as if his approach to teaching was not conducive to a good learning environment. The material was fascinating, and I would have loved the class if Watters hadn't been teaching. DeSimone helped out in labs, but half the time nobody knew what we were doing anyway. As for the assignments, there was one week when we had 3 projects and an exam. incredible amount of work made more difficult by a stubborn and essentially meanspirited professor.
  3. There is a reason they call it Cell Hell, and you sense it the first few steps to the 140 Lecture Hall. Too bad the criticisms won't help after this spring. DeSimone makes better sense of the material, yet grades you with a knife. Watters is too condescending in his teaching style, moves too quickly through slides, and has illegible handwriting. I hated this course; if possible, take three classes instead of four if considering cellular biology.
  4. First of all, being an alumn, it doesn't surprise me to see these comments about Dr. Watter's class Dr. Watters is the anti-thesis to teaching biology well. Some people may support his hardass method of teaching, but I actually believe it discourages people from learning biology and seeing how interesting it is. He makes you focus way too much on arbritary details without focusing on the *main concepts* and emphasizing the essentials of biology and scientific thought that can help you get through any future course. I must say, the material is very interesting and it opened my eyes to a lot of things. However, the manner he teaches it is not good for 90% of students. It baffles me today why professors like him are given tenure.. I think middlebury should consider retiring this relic of scientific history.
  5. An incredible amount of work. Don't take it unless you are prepared to devote the majority of your semester to this class. The hardest class I have ever taken at Midd - don't take it unless you have to!
  6. learned a lot, but it almost killed me
  7. Seriously consider waiting until the course will be taught by another professor...
  8. Very interesting material if you're into it, but unbelievvable amounts of work to boot. If you're interested inBio, but not willing to put away 20 hours a week for this class, don't bother?
  9. Dr Watters should be removed from the faculty. BI250 seems to need an entire overhaul, but it could just be Watters
  10. Worst class I've taken on campus. Professor Watters is awful- truly the worst professor I've had at Middlebury. Watters is not only completely incompetent as a teacher, but can be downright mean as well. ONLY TAKE THIS CLASS BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO. You'd have to be a complete moron to take it for any other reason. And no matter what, DO NOT TAKE THIS OR ANY CLASS WITH WATTERS.
