  2. This class was brutal. Homework questions preceded lecture material. Sontum is more than fair when it comes to grading.
  3. this course was rough. sontum puts more time in than any prof i've ever had, and he grades more thoroughly than anyone, too, but he's not always great at answering questions. some of the material is really interesting, though. be prepared to work.
  4. Probably the hardest class I have ever taken at Middlebury. Sontum is so hard and din't do a very good job of explaining things. It took me a long time to catch on to what kinds of things he wanted and what would be important for his tests. The homework sets were near-impossible. Luckily, he wants you to do so much better than you deserve. His policy on test point make-up is the most generous thing I've ever heard of at college and he is very generous with his time telling you how to do the problem the right way. He knows his science really really well, but I found him not to be so good at sharing it with me. You will learn to become a better experimentalist from this class as it will maek you think about what it means to be a scientist: measuring physical properties and making up explanations for what you see.
  5. Damn! This class is really difficult, but Dr. Sontum is one of the nicest professors on campus. He's more than generous when he grades.
  6. This class is intense. Be ready for more biochemistry then chemistry. Also get ready for some number crunching.
