Evaluation Comments for Billings

  1. Professor Billings is a fantastic professor---extremely nice, easy to talk to, incredibly well-versed in the subject material, and genuinely concerned with his students well-being as well as their understanding of the material. For the most part, the lectures were interesting and useful, the papers were more than fair, and the work load completely manageable. If you can, though, take Billings' Shakespeare class instead, or in addition to this one. It's really teriffic.
  2. This is a requirement for the DR distribution requirement for English, and if you have to take this somewhat boring class, you gotta take it with billings. He's hilarious, engaging, super intelligent and very lax on both giving in assignments late and grading. he made the class enjoyable, found sex in every play we read and there was no discussion. the class is a bit too big to allow for thorough analysis of the plays, but the lectures are engagin and billings is a pretty cool guy all around and he knows his stuff.
  3. This class was okay--not great, but not bad. The lectures weren't overly necessary to the course--our grades were based on essays, and you were perfectly able to write good essays based on the plays without attending lectures...I rarely felt like I was getting anything out of them, or at least, nothing overly important. The professor was also okay--not great, but not bad, much like the course. He is passionate about the subject, but that passion doesn't come across very well; it doesn't create active lectures. Basically, this was an average course--not as bad as some I've taken, but it definitely paled in comparison to those taught by more active energetic professors that I've taken.
  4. Enjoyable class but contained a LOT of history...which was interesting, but less pertaining...and sometimes excessive
  5. Great Professor. Fun class. I've been here three years and have seen many profs come and go, and I'll tell you that this guy is probably one of the most decent and nice professors I have met. He genuinely cares about your well-being and performance. Very accessible and open-minded.
