Evaluation Comments for Broucke P

  1. Broucke is the greatest professor at Midd. He is so enthusiatic and is a very fair grader. He is so concerned with the stundents it is refresher. Always available to meet. I learned so much from this class. The material really comes to life. Broucke is an inspiring professor. Highly recommend.
  2. Not a very hard course, but at times very boring. I did enjoy writing the final paper; but our presentations were so rushed! Broucke is pretty good however.
  3. Peter is a wonderful lecturer. He is just so engadging that he makes you interested in whatever he has to say.
  4. Best professor and such a nice person. He is truly passionate about what he teaches, and is a great lecturer. He genuinely wants his students to learn the material and do well.
  5. I loved this course and I love Pieter Broucke! He is a great lecturer, though at times slightly disorganized. He gives two midterm exams and one final research paper. His exams are very fair: they test you on what he covered and emphasized during lecture. As an art history major, I had no problem delving into ancient art and architecture. However, I would suggest that you have taken an art history course before taking this even though there is not prerequ. If you like antiquity and/or are interested in the dynamic in the power struggle between the various Emperors, take this course.
  6. I am not an Art History person, but this was by far the best class I have ever taken at Middlebury. The professor was amazing and found a way to make 2,000 year old artwork interesting. Lots of opportunities for independent research and information from a broad range of sources. Definatly take a class from Broucke!
  7. great, relaxed class. Broucke is very enthusiastic!
  8. not the greatest teacher, should have a pre-rec to the class
  9. I really enjoyed the class. Broucke is a good and thorough lecturer, so you really don't need to do the reading as long as you take good notes (though it's actually a pretty interesting text). There wasn't all that much work- a few very short position papers on academic readings, two tests, and a final paper. The tests are very easy; he only tests you on information he has covered thoroughly and repeatedly. The final paper wasn't long (only 8 pages), but it is harder than you would expect to find sources on Roman art. Even still, I would recommend the course.
