Evaluation Comments for Crouzieres-Ingenthron, A.

  1. This class was by far the hardest class I took last semester. It involved intensive reading and bi-weekly essays. It was tough having it at 8:00 am and being expected to contribute everyday. That being said, it was also probably the class I learned the most from. My French writing has improved ten times over. Professor Crouzieres is incredibly nice and supportive. I remember one day I didn't say anything though I normally do and she was so concerned that I was upset or sick. She's such a good person! She's always willing to help you put an essay together, and with your French. She is not out to get you. There is a lot of work, but that is how you learn a language. She offers a rewrite option for every essay you write, and you can always improve your grade all the way up to an A, no matter how you did on the first essay. This struck me as a really effective, non-stressful way to learn to write French. While the subject was not my favorite, it is certainly a worthwhile experience for anyone who wants to learn French. Just be aware that it is a time-consuming class when you plan out your semester.
  2. i didn't like this class and i didn't hate it. mme crouzieres gives ungodly amounts of work, and for the first few weeks her assignments were confusing, but she is a fair grader and always lets you rewrite. i feel like my writing really improved in this class, more so than my speaking. she promotes class discussion, but has an annoying tendency not to accept analyses than don't agree with her own. she can be a bit overbearing. also, avoid etre completely when writing papers for her. she will mark how many times you used it and make you replace them all.
  3. Madame Crouzieres really forces you to speak French--even the shy kids in the corners. She does this so that your French can improve and it helps, although it makes for a semi-stressful classroom environment. She asks you to write many papers which take FOREVER but she is a fair grader and lets you rewrite. This was by far the most time-consuming class I had. SO much reading and writing--but for all of my complaining, it DID improve my French.
  4. I am not a fan of French literature by any means, however the Professor is extremely engaing and very dynamic. I enjoyed her class a lot and I feel as if I learned a lot from taking it. This being said if you take this class be prepared for ungodly amounts of work. There are large chunks of reading and questions to answer for every class, out of all my classes (including some that were much more reading intensive) I probably spent the most time on this course. However, the Professor is a great person, great in class and the work isn't particularly hard, there's just a lot of it. If you're prepared to do the work and to speak up in class then I definitely say take this course.
  5. Madame Crouzi?res is absolutely wonderful. The literature can be challenging (Balzac) at times, but the class atmosphere is not intimidating, and the teacher is there to promote class discussion for a better understanding of the works. A tough course but very stimulating.
  6. I wasn't expecting to like this class as much as I do - I've never been a huge fan of 19th century literature. However, Armelle Crouzieres is a great professor, she's so dynamic and always there to help. I've thought for a while that I wanted to be a French major, and this class pretty much solidified that decision.
  7. Although French literature is not my favorite subject, this was a good class. The professor is lively and does a good job of keeping the discussion going. There is a fair amount of reading, four papers, and two exams over the semester. She allows rewrites, which is great.
  8. A lot of work, pretty tough class, but I think I really improved my French.
