Evaluation Comments for Davis, J

  1. good class, useful information, great professor
  2. One of the two best classes that I have taken here at Middlebury. It was simply superb. Davis knows his stuff and he is a joy in class. He is a tough grader, but if you put in the effort he will reward you. The second half of the class is fascinating and will give you a brand new view on the Supreme Court.
  3. I would highly recommend Professor Davis to anyone. Separation of church and state is definitely one of his specialties, as evidenced by how knowledgeable he is on the subject. The first half is devoted to historical reading from William Penn, Roger Williams, etc. that provide the foundations for our concept of separation of church and state in the US. The second half is devoted to reading and discussing Supreme Court cases. If you're at all interested in reading Supreme Court decisions take this class! It changed me from a bio to political science major. (While it is in the religion department, there is a lot of crossover with political science.) Professor Davis is great at maintaining good discussion and always keeps the class interesting. I loved this class. Definitely one of, if not, the best classes I've taken at Middlebury.
