  2. Paul Monod is one of the best teachers I've had at Middlebury...he is tough in that he expects a lot from you and isn't the most flexible person. He's also a tough grader on essays, but his lectures were good and I really enjoyed the class.
  3. I learned a lot in this class. Lectures were very interesting, and there wasn't that much work outside of reading (3 papers, 1 final). However, this class was HUGE and Dana auditorium sucked as a lecture hall.
  4. Monod knows what he's talking about. He's got lots of knowledge, and really knows how to lead a discussion. He is very passionate about States and Revolutions. It's not too difficult to listen to what he has to say and become interested. Take this class, it's worth it. There is a lot of reading, but if you can get through it, you can learn a lot.
  5. Very different from what I was expecting. If you're super psyched about France and dull lectures, take the class.
  6. Awesome class.
  7. I loved Professor Monod, he was very friendly and informative. His lecture style was very conducive to taking notes, which made the transition from his lectures to West's fairly jarring. Discussions were more interesting than lectures, and it helped if you did the reading - though a lot of people saved the reading for the papers. If you don't know much about the French and Russian revolutions this class is worth your time.
  8. Monod is an interesting professor. This class was team taught by Prof West and Monod. Although Monod was funny and not uptight in discussion I heard that Prof West was the better professor. Both know a lot about history especially the French Revolution and Russian Revolution. If this is just a course to fulfill the His requirement do not take this class. I have heard it is one of the worst and hardest history classes to take.
