  1. Maria is probably one of the most passionate and caring teachers I have ever had! The material in this class was interesting, particularly if you are interested in religion, and she doesn't take the aggresive feminist stance that one would expect. There is a lot of reading, but mostly it is very interesting, and if you don't have time to do the reading most of the time it doesn't matter because she leads the class with long lectures (normally the class went over time). She is a motherly figure to everyone in the class, is incredibly passionate and dedicated to her teaching, and encourages everyone to get personally involved with the material. If you want to get to know a professor take a class with Maria!
  2. Maria is very willing to help, discuss, and explore new material in class and one on one in her office. She is a true teacher, in the fact that she really tries to apply the themes from this class to our lives. The class can seem a little scattered and random, but if you look at the big picture, it will be an enjoyable process.
  3. Maria is a wonderful teacher, but I found the lectures to be scattered and disorganized. It was very difficult for me to grasp the "big picture". Maria gets so involved and passionate about the subjects, but I found my mind wandering throughout the lectures.
  4. Maria is AWESOME. not only is she ridiculously passionate about what she teaches, she really would rather you LEARN the material than actually get tested (as in, she will listen to you if you don't want to take a midterm and is incredibly accommodating to your needs as long as you don't take advantage of her). The class really required very little outside work, although be prepared to answer difficult questions in class. Some people found her candidness a little disconcerting but otherwise, it was an awesome experience. One of my favorite profs so far at midd.
  5. Maria is a saint. She is so beautiful and passionate. I highly recommend taking one of her classes while at Middlebury. The material was amazingly fascinating. I learned so much. She truly asks and encourages you to become connected with the material. The class is as much about history, gender, religion as it is about personal growth and the individual journey. I loved this class so much.
  6. I wish I had taken this class earlier than I took it. It more than studying for a grade but I enjoyed every bit of the lectures and eventually grew from it. Maria embodies what a true liberal arts education should be. I love it.
