Evaluation Comments for Eaton

  1. You are both completely wrong. This class was interesting and thought-provoking, and definitely required the students to dig below the surface rather than just giving you the answers outright, but it was a very interesting course and Eaton is an incredibly smart guy. You both could learn a little thing or two from him! Students: if you are interested in a challenging course that will make you think about different cultures in a new way, take this course. I LOVED IT!
  2. ohmigosh. you are so RIGHT. Students, I can not agree more with what was said above. And I stress. NO STRUCTURE. What kind of a class is that?? I really hope that this class doesnt put people off of African studies. I have lived in Africa before- it is so much more interesting than how Eaton makes it. DONT GET PUT OFF!
  3. Africa is a very large continent, so attempting to familiarize students, who have never been there, about the people, cutoms, land and language, in one semester is very difficult. So, I understand that the Professor had a hard time teaching the course...but class was boring, we hever even talked bout a thrid of the readings, many people never said a word in class b/c the discussion was not stimulating and had no structure, and we did not receive grades for all our papers till exam week...which meant that no one had a clue where they stood (in terms of grades) before writing the final paper and taking the exam. We watched a film every monday night...many of them were great, others were boring. Unfortunately, we never talked about the films in class, so watching them seemed pointless. I wanted to learn about Africa because I have always been fascinated by it....but this course did not interest me at all. TAKE SOMETHING ELSE!
