Evaluation Comments for Chaplin J

  1. Take a class with Jane Chaplin. Best decision I've made since I came to Midd. She's great. She's quirky, but her lessons are engaging. Reading isn't too bad. Tests are fairly easy - she gives you the questions before hand, so they're easy to prepare for.
  2. I really liked Prof. Chaplin, although she expects a lot from her students. An interesting course, definitely worth it

  4. Prof. Chaplin is very nice. That being said, it is about the only compliment I can give her. She exists in a parellel universe where paper clips are hilarious and sex is frighteningly fascinating (you haven't lived until you've experienced Prof. Chaplin's 5th grade obsession with sex). Aside from being comically oblivious to the world, Prof. Chaplin is a very hard grader. While she leaves her essay questions very open-ended, she expects the student to follow her detailed (but hidden and unknown to the student) approach. She punishes originality and creativity with C-level grades. Her exam Identifications are also very difficult. If anything positive can be said about this class, it is the hilarity of merely observing Prof. Chaplin who is straight out of Napoleon Dynamite (although the joke loses much of its lustre after she pillages your essay grades).
  5. Chaplin is a tough cookie; nonetheless, you will learn more about Greek history in this class than you ever planned to. Be prepared to read, read, read. Don't BS on your papers; she knows everything.
