Evaluation Comments for Waldron

  1. boring boring boring lectures. only take this if you are really interested in Buddhism, otherwise not worth it! Also, the papers took a long time to write and he was kind of a finicky grader.
  2. Waldron is such a nice man and very laid back. He's lenient with deadlines if you talk to him. The class itself wasn't my very favorite. The material can be very interesting but after a certain point it's just confusing. The readings don't really matter until you have to write the papers. But all in all not really a hard class, but not really that engaging
  3. Professor Waldron provides a friendly class atmosphere. He is extremely knowledgable in the subject material and seems to really enjoy talking about it and teaching it. He allows class discussions to lead themselves and doesn't mind if they don't exactly follow his teachings for the day. This is helpful to understanding the overall concepts. He is a very nice and helpful professor and I found this course extremely interesting.
  4. Buddhism in India was almost entirely discussion based, but Waldron is really miserable in a discussion session. He's obviously intelligent, but we talked about the same subject for three solid weeks and he never made us move on. The same questions were asked again and again, but his personality was too forgiving and he wasn't willing to encourage people to come to his office hours so the rest of the class could move on. It was incredibly frustrating.
  5. If you are really into Buddhism and other Eastern religions then take this class, but it seemed that all non-majors became disinterested.
