  2. Another great class by Steve. This was the class that helped me to decide to switch to a conservation biology major. You do a lot of work in excel to run population models, but I found them to be interesting and fun, although they can be frustrating if you get stuck. This is also a good option for a cw class. You choose 2-3 papers to write and split the grade between them. You submit a draft and then Steve sends you revisions to make and if you make them you do well, and end up with a better grade on the paper overall.
  3. Steve is interesting and an enthusiastic lecturer, but this class spends far too much time working on inane Excel spreadsheet modeling exercises and not enough time talking about the concepts behind conservation biology. If you're required to take this course, definitely take it in J-term so you don't have to deal with these spreadsheets for longer than a month.
