  3. This is a seminar style class so if you don't like discussions stay away from it. However, the discussions are always engaging and thought-provoking, and Professor Viner is a really accommodating and relaxed man. I added this course at the very end of the add period, and he was really understanding about catching up, and didn't make me do too much make-up work. This class will make you look at modern issues in new ways and might even completely change your mind about them.
  4. Viner is an awesome professor! If you are interested in philosophy, definitely take this class
  5. Great class- Very thought provoking and the material studied is extremely relevant. Viner is passionate and great at facilitating discussion. Relaxed class atmosphere, reading assignments are fair and interesting, and exams are not at all bad if you are interested in the material. Overall definitely worth taking!
  6. This class is not difficult, but is incredibly challenging in the sense that it will force you to questions your cor values and beliefs. I definitely recommend it--especially if you're not from a philosophy background since the issues are all ones we're relatively familiar with.
  7. Viner is one of the best professors at Middlebury. He may seem lost at times during discussion but thats because he tries really hard to make sure all sides of the issue are heard. Absolutely loved the class. If you work hard, an A is very possible.
  8. As mentioned, this class is a 100% student-led discussion, meaning there is absolutely no lecturing from the prof. At times it was very thought provoking, but oftentimes it was extremely boring. You don?t ever need to take notes, and for each class you typically read only a couple small articles. The prof is very relaxed, generally a nice guy, and always available for help with papers.
  9. This course was great. It is a survey of moral issues, where one or two classes are devoted to each issue covered. Viner is a great teach too: laid back, engaging in discussions, and plus the readings for class are typically under 20 pages.
  10. Viner is a great guy. Genuinely interested in discussion and enthusiastic.
  11. Great class. Student led discussion. Viner is an excellent prof. Does not assign a great deal of work, fair grader. Highly recommend this class
  12. This class really made you think about the issues presented. You could do as little or as much work as you wanted to. Three papers and no final.
  13. Viner is smart and it's apparent. He doesn't state his personal convictions; rather, he presents many sides to the issues. The class was highly discussion-driven, which was great and thought-provoking. I'd definitely recommend this course or another with Viner.
  14. Viner is a smart and engaging professor who is very open to different ideas. His classes are relaxed and interesting. The reading is fairly light, max. one hour per each of the three classes. I still felt like I learned a lot and the subject matter WILL make you think differently about how you approach the world. Written assignments are not overly taxing, and Viner is a fair grader. All in all, a perfect class if your curious about philosophy and want to approach it in an open, enjoyable way. I would recommend it without hesitation. Viner is a great professor.
  15. This class is very interesting and it gave me a very different perspective on many of the moral issues we discussed.
