  3. This is an interesting seminar, and I suggest it to anybody who doesn't mind anywhere from 100-150 pages of reading between classes and answering reading questions. If you don't think you'll want that much reading, I strongly advise to take a less reading intensive seminar. Stanger is extremely fair in her grading, even if scratching out a decent grade seems daunting at first. In reality, if you do the reading, answer the questions, and come to class and participate, you'll be fine. There are four 4-5 page essays over the course of the semester, which count for 72% of your overall grade, or 18% each. You'll get a re-write for each of them if you don't like your initial grade, and the re-write and the first draft will be averaged together for your final grade. Participation (answering questions and talking in class) is the final 28%. If you do a good job on your reading responses, you will be able to copy and paste paragraphs and stitch together an essay. I found that this was better than writing an essay from scratch, which can be hard because of the breadth and depth of the reading material. Good luck, and don't let the course scare you, unless you're planning to take three other challenging courses as well.
