Evaluation Comments for Hill

  1. This is a SUPER class!! Prof. Hill was always willing to debate an issue, adding excitement. While he may seem intimidating to some, don't hesitate to ask questions. He's just passionate about what he teaches (he's a bit old school). While Prof. Hill read some of the poetry in class, it will really add to your class experience if you think about it before hand, and he won't read the poems later in the course, as they get longer, especially Shelley's "In Defense of Poetry" (good stuff!!) Bottom Line: Take Hill if you get the chance.
  2. The material wasn't terriblly appealing to me, and professor Hill is not a very accessible professor, but other than that I thought the class was okay. It was too large and really needed a discussion, though. I essentially took it to fufill a poetry requirement for the English major.
  3. The poetry in this class was of course incredible. Hill's teaching style is a bit strange, and distant, but he is a opinionated and intelligent, and when students in his class actually make the effort to dicuss intelligently, he is remarkably supportive and interested. A lot of the kids in the class gave him a hard time, and felt some need to "rebel" against him, so perhaps this is a sign that he is not a well liked teacher, but I found him amusing and intriguing.
