Evaluation Comments for Spackman

  1. Extremely intriguing course material, assuming you're into philosophy/theology. Readings can get pretty dense at times, but the discussions in class make up for that. Spackman does a good job explaining difficult concepts. It really helped that everyone was so interested in the topics at hand, creating a great atmosphere and awesome discussions that continued outside of the classroom. The papers, while not too difficult to write, are very hard to get A's on. Spackman is almost never satisfied with explanations and his comments usually consist of "I think you could have explained this better/further." It got frustrating spending hours making changes on papers only to get a B+. Doesn't seem like the kind of guy who gives out many A's. The grade isn't that important though, I definitely took a lot away from this class.
  2. Spackman gives a thurough and very interesting intro. to both philosophy and religion, and how they relate. This class really makes you think!
  3. amazing, amazing, AMAZING class. the ideas that are introduced are complex and intriguing and the discussions were thought-provoking. you often find yourself surprised at where you stand in relation to religion. Spackman is WONDERFUL--sweet, knowledgeable, and a great teacher. the readings are relevant but it's not necessary to do them all. pick this class if you love to talk and have strong views.
