Evaluation Comments for Napier E

  1. Foundations with Napier was unfulfilling. As a required English course full of English majors, discussions could have been more complex, challenging, nuanced, ANYTHING. Instead it felt like I was back in high school discussing plot points. There's no discussion of why or how these works are foundational, how they resonate with one another, how they can change in interpretation through the ages. It wasn't a particularly difficult class, but it also wasn't challenging enough to really delve into with any kind of rigor. It pains me to call a class about Shakespeare and Milton this but...it was...boring. Napier offers good help for constructing solid papers and allows rewrites which is fantastic, but discussion was definitely lacking, as were paper topics.
  2. I took this because it was required for the ENAM major - it ended up being one of my favorite courses. Napier does a great job of facilitating discussions - she encourages and never makes anyone feel dumb. However, don't come to this class unprepared or it'll be a struggle. She's a hard grader, but lets you rewrite as many times as you want and will replace the old grade with the new. Go in and talk to her - she was really willing to help. My writing improved substantially.
  3. I came into Prof. Napier's class with a lot of reservations and thought it would be another typical english course, but i was wrong. My writing improved by taking this course and I also learned a lot of skills that will be helpful for senior exams. ON top of all this, she is encouraging and willing to take re-writes.
