Evaluation Comments for Sandwick

  1. Sandwick is the greatest STEM professor for chem 103! Highly recommended.
  2. Rog did a great job of teaching the rather boring material typical of an intro chemistry class. Although the class was one of the largest I've taken at Midd, Rog learned everyone's name by the second or third week of course and made a conscious effort to speak with students about their academic goals and plans before lectures. I'm definitely glad to be taking 104 with him now and will likely ask him to me my advisor when I declare my major.
  3. To call Rog a baller would be an understatement. I would be perfectly happy to have him as a friend as well as a professor. He is funny, engaging, and approachable. He also talks about some interesting real-world applications of chemistry, which I really enjoyed. Even if you struggle with the material, you will really like Rog.
  4. For many people chemistry is going to be required, but that doesn't mean you have to like it. Sandwick ("Rog" as he asked us to call him) is the nicest, most captivating, and funniest chemistry professor you'll ever find. Some of the material was still a little tedious; regardless, he was always fair and thorough, and made chemistry that best he could for everyone. You'll learn chemistry and have fun; this is the best intro chem course you can take.
  5. This class is unstructured so that it's hard to understand how the materials fit together, Rog asks unfair questions on exams about irrelevant class demonstrations, making all the hard work you spent preparing a waste of time. I can't recommend this class.

  7. Rog is awesome - the class is great, be sure to remember the demos-they are on tests.

  11. Professor makes information very interesting. Classes are lively and entertaining. And the material is fairly easy too.
  12. this was a very fun class to be in. rog was always entertaining and he did multiple demonstrations every day which were always interesting. i had never taken chemistry before this course and at times it was difficult to follow his lectures but for the most part it was a great class. his tests and quizzes were not too difficult and there wasn't too much homework.
  13. Rodge is the best, he makes the class fun and interesting. There is about one homework assignment every week that really doesn't take too long, and the quizzes and test are pretty straight forward. Make sure to take notes on the experiments though because he puts that on the tests and final exam.

Roger makes you seem like you only need to know certain concepts for tests and then he tests you stupid stuff like his demos and he asks really specific questions about things that aren't important instead of the important concepts. Memorize your notes and that is the way to do well. There is no need to read the book. He kind of has some attitude sometimes as well.
  15. Although Roger is a fun professor, this class is probably the most boring class I have ever taken. The information taught in class was not at all interesting, especially because Roger did not tie ideas together. At time the lectures were very difficult to follow. The tests were pretty hard, especially the final. Good news for pre-med students who hate chemistry: CH 104 is easier and a lot more interesting.
  16. i absolutely hate chemistry and wish it would die... but roger is such an entertaining prof that i somehow survived... he does goofy presentations and kickin' demos... he should be the president of middlebury... and that's that.
  17. Rog is awesome...he is always available to help and he made 8am lectures as interesting as they possibly could have been.

  19. Sandwick is an outstanding professor and lecturer - really entertaining guy, but also explains topics really clearly. Even though I'm not a chem major and not pre-med, I found the material interesting and fairly valuable. Only thing I did not like was labs - they did not always connect well to the course topics.

  21. Although Rog is really funny and outgoing.. he doesn't teach the material very well. I stuck to reading the textbook and more or less teaching myself. The lectures seem random and not planned out. He skips over some fundamental concepts and goes straight to more advanced material. Not a bad course, just not a very solid base of chemistry. Very nice guy- clearly brilliant but I think thats the problem, he's too smart for this level of chem.
