  3. There should have been discussion sections; I think next time Waters teaches this class he's going to include them but that would be something worth checking out.
  4. Neil Waters is great.
  5. Material is fascinating. I definitely reccommend this class over 236 (Modern Japan) and HIGHLY reccommend it over HI111 with Wyatt.
  6. Fantastic class. Not only is the material rich and fascinating, Waters is a riot as a lecturer ? really, he goes off on some hilarious tangents sometimes, but because he?s so knowledgeable about his field, he always ties his anecdotes into the course in a fun and memorable way. This is the ideal class for any student: relatively light workload, one 8-12 page research paper, some long readings that you really don?t have to do except for discussion, and a midterm exam and final that are extremely straightforward. prof will give you a study sheet including everything that could possibly be on the test. Just pay attention to lectures and take good notes. The best thing about this course is that you won?t have to work like a dog to make decent marks, and you also come out of it with a ton of intellectual baggage. Waters and Pre-Modern Japan FTW!
