  4. 210 and 220 tend to feel boring and repetitive, but Ricardo is nice and lax about the stupid aspects of the department...like some of the assignments we had.
  5. This course is basically a grammar review, so it might benefit some more than others. Personally, I felt as if I already knew all of the concepts, so class time was pretty boring. The writing project, which includes three 4-5 page writing assignments, is painful and boring. Make sure you choose a topic that you find interesting because you're stuck with it for 2 or 3 months! Chavez is a very nice professor and is very understanding about missing classes and such. He's a hard grader when it comes to the writing assignments but the tests tend to be fairly easy.
  6. Ricardo was awesome. The class itself was a little dull, but he was so excited about the material, and you could tell he really knew what he was talking about. He was also really relaxed about grades, and as long as you handed something in eventually, he didn't care how late it was. If you're going to take 220, I totally recommend you take it with him!
  7. This class was a bit slow and lackluster but again, not the fault of Ricardo. Ricardo is unbelievably nice, friendly, and easy to contact. I am really looking forward to having him for a 300+ level class. Great guy and Professor!
  8. Previous comments might give you the impressive that Chavez is a slacker. Not true. While his is very flexible with students work and attendence, he has very high standards for himself. He is ?there? everyday. He has been the most valuable resource for spanish i?ve ever had. if you feel bored in this class: focus on the writing. chavez is very helpful with this as well.
  9. If you are taking 220, take it with Chavez. Even though 220 is basically a repetition of things you should already know, you can learn a good deal about writing from Chavez. Also, he's the most relaxed, friendly professor ever.
  10. Spanish 220 is really just not very interesting or helpful; however, that is a flaw with the Spanish program at Middlebury in general. It most definitely is NOT Ricardo's fault. I definitely think that he was the best teacher to take the class with. He is interesting and funny and ridiculously nice. He was ALWAYS helpful and understanding: He never got mad at people for being late or missing classes. He never got mad if someone didn't do the reading or their homework. He is always willing to extend deadlines on assignments, and in general I found that both his tests and his grading of essays was very easy.
  11. I loved the semester long project, it really forced me to look into the subject I was studying.
  12. There was a lot of work in this class, but it was manageable. He sent out a lot of emails regarding readings and such, which helped because students often missed information when he spoke in class. I don't know if there is any cure for the grammar sequence in Spanish - people always seem bored in class, but most of the information was straight forward. A bit hard to get an A.
  13. While this class was not the most interesting, Ricardo is AWESOME. He's so cute and funny and loves to teach the material. The class is VERY easy - there is very little work and it's spread out so much over the semester that it literally feels like you don't have to do anything for the class. Ricardo was great at clarifying concepts and confusing parts in the reading...he was great!!
