Evaluation Comments for Rosenberg D

  1. Prof. Rosenberg is jolly old fellow. No really, he runs class like it's Christmas. He cares about his students and has some intereting assignments. It's not entirely necessary to do all the reading all the time. Class material is always relevent but sometimes a little dry overall esp. on lecture days. Just pay attention and participate and you'll be fine. Three repsonse papers, a take-home final, and a midterm.
  2. The course at times doesn't seen to directly address issues of political economy, Rosenberg is a good lecturer and the readings are very interesting.
  3. Take this class, even if you're not a Poli Sci/Econ major. The readings, unlike most Poli Sci courses, will largely involve the world's economic and political structure post-WW2, so you won't have to muck about too much with European Colonialism, and other boring stuff you've probably covered to death elsewhere. Prof. Rosenberg is pretty left-leaning (so am I, but I at least tried to criticize some parts of the theses put forward in the readings), but he is definitely willing to engage alternative viewpoints. The class is largely what you make of it, as since the readings deal heavily with current events, you can really learn a lot, but you have to WANT to learn. Prof. Rosenberg will generously reward your curiosity, as I learned, to my benefit. I'm an econ major, and would strongly recommend this course for Econ majors, as it doesn't assume previous knowledge of international relations theory. It was a welcome break from my regular Econ courses, which as I've found, are heavily quantitative, largely taking the fun out of it.
