Evaluation Comments for eglene

  1. too much reading... the lectures are just useless. tests are hard and not based on the materials that we learned in class. terrible discussion sessions-- the prof. herself doesn't know what she is talking about...
  2. Professor Eglene is very "by the book" and sticks closely to reading material and class outlines. While her lectures can be difficult to understand at times (the french accent, the speed, the general lack of interest on her part), she keeps the material rather simple and does not really go beyond basic theories and facts. Her exams are very easy and predictable, especially if you have a basic idea of what has been going on throughout the course.
  3. Because it is an intro class, it does cover alot of material and deals with generalizations. Eglene is an okay professor, but lacks enthusiasm for the class. When you talk in discussion, she simply nods - its unclear whether what you said was right/wrong, intelligent/dumb. It is not too demanding of a class apart from the heavy reading load. The papers and exams were not too difficult either.
  4. i'm sure prof. eglene is very intelligent and she's a very nice person, etc. that said, however, she has zero enthusiasm for this class. her lectures are BORING. you don't have to do the reading so most people don't. which means discussions are BORING. the readings are extremely random and she doesn't do a good job integrating them into the lecture or general concepts at all. the topics in this class are realllly interesting, but in the end i felt like i didn't learn much in this class. this may be because i was one of the many who did not do the readings. and i still got an A in the class. so unless you are extremely self-motivated and disciplined enough to do readings that are often long and dense with no guidance, i would not take this class.
  5. This is a good course that covers a bunch of interesting materiel. Very applicapable to things going on in the world today. Eglene's lectures are nothing great, but they're not awful, and the discussion sessions are fairly interesting. All you have to do is speak up once in a while, and she's a really easy grader. Some weeks there's a lot of reading, some of which is boring, repetitive, and useless, but some of it is fascinating. You should definately consider taking this course.
