Evaluation Comments for Spackman J

  1. Professor Spackman is great. He's really smart (like REALLY smart) but he doesn't try to put on a show, and can come off dry at times. However, if you're interested in the material, he explains obscure philosophical concepts really well in class. Readings were okay, but you don't have to do them all. Great to talk to during office hours if you have any questions.
  2. Decent class and Spackman's a decent professor, but the course itself can be frusterating. Spackman doesn't really explain the nuances of the texts that you read, but merely ensures that everyone knows the highlights of the text (which generally, you'd be able to understand on your own or understand by reading the Stanford Encylopedia of Philosophy). This made the reading and the course kind of redundant and was frustrating grade wise because he expected you to understand the nuances of the texts that were never discussed in class. It's not a huge complaint and I'd still recommend the course if you're interested in Philosophy.
  3. This was an interesting class. Well taught.
