Evaluation Comments for West D

  1. Mineralogy is required for the major and the knowledge you gain from the class will change the way you think about geology and equip you with the knowledge you'll need for the rest of your prospecting days. Dave is very good at explaining the material in an accessible way, and the work for the class is totally fine. You'll have a weekly lab, which can be completed in the lab time and is totally manageable. You'll also have the chance to decipher the mineralogy of a rock of your choice, which is a cool way to personalize the experience. You'll also have to give a short and relatively casual presentation about a mineral of your choice, which I thought was fun. Other than that, the lectures can be a bit technical/boring, but that's due to the nature of the material, and not Dave's teaching style. I'd definitely recommend this class to anyone who is interested in geology, chemistry, geometry, physics, or just likes looking at pretty crystals.
