Evaluation Comments for Bertolini

  1. "Great class. I strongly disagree with the negative comments here! Professor Bertolini is one of the best at Middlebury." one could just as vapidly say "Terrible class. I strongly disagree with the positive comments here! Professor Bertolini is one of the worst at Middlebury." c'mon give some evidence. the people who were critical told us why they were critical. don't just say vapidly "oh those people are totally and utterly wrong" without explaining
  2. Prof. B is an amazing professor - he is insightful, extremely knowledgeable and always entertaining in class. I found him to be completely fair and unbiased.
  3. Great class. I strongly disagree with the negative comments here! Professor Bertolini is one of the best at Middlebury.
  4. The lectures were sometimes funny but they were mostly just loud and boring. I took this class because my sister (class of '99) told me that I absolutely had to take a course with John Bertolini before I graduated as part of my Middlebury experience and for my major. But I would personally NOT recommend this course or this professor. He thinks he is an actor (which he is not) and goes on and on about stupid things, and then he dismisses student's opinions in discussion section unless they agree with him exactly. If you do take this course absolutely don't mention feminism or any kind of theory if you want to get an A. I have a piercing and a tatoo which I'm positive also counted against me so also think twice if you have an alternative look.
  5. I had heard that this professor was a pretentious windbag, and I now I agree. He loves to hear himself talk, and he doesn't listen to students, especially if you any ideas that feminist or theoretical. He just shuts you down and grades you down. I definitely felt that my voice was not heard, and I would NOT recommend this professor.
  6. EL 229 is a great course for those who are interested in reading British Drama and seeing some great films.??If you are interested, I suggest that you take either the "Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Milton" course or Bertolini's Shakespeare Course beforehand.??He makes a lot of allusions to many of Shakespeare's works.??Good class, good lecturer. Fun reading.??Tests are decent, but expect a lot of writing.
