Evaluation Comments for Swenton

  1. for the first three months, i was completely lost in this class. and then in december i ad an epiphany and it all made sense. seriously, this class was probably one of the best that ive taken here. at the time i took it, there was no homework at all, it was all about concepts. and swenton does a really god job at explaining them.
  2. great Guy!
  3. like everyone knows, he stresses the concepts really well. he knows what he is teaching and makes you understand perfectly why you're doing something. that is a great thing that you won't find from most professors. but be prepared to devote sometime doing the homework and outside class preparation. his way of teaching makes you think that you understood everything, but if you don't devote a lot of time crystalizing the concepts you learnt, the exams can be very tough for you. he is a great teacher for those who are willing to work through independently, but he won't keep throwing knowledge into your brain unless you come up with questions.
  4. one of the best teachers i have ever had. if you're planning on taking any math courses, see if you can get swenton first. he really knows his stuff and goes above and beyond to make sure you know what you're doing. he conveys the concepts with such ease. be prepared to work though. test preparation is tough and the tests are not a cake walk, but its all worth it. definately take any class you can with swenton.
  5. Professor Swenton taught this class in a fairly unique way, with emphasis on the concepts and not the calculation. Homework was not excessive, but what there was of it was sometimes thought-provoking. The final exam was a take-home and took me twenty pages to complete, but upon finishing it I realized it had been a great exam and I had really learned a good deal. This class becomes almost trivial after taking PH212; I would recommend taking MA201 before PH212 if possible.
