Evaluation Comments for Bunt

  1. I found the second semester of orgo more interesting, but much more difficult than the first. Although probably a product of the course material, I also believe it is due to Bunt's high expectations. He is very organized and thorough, but flies through the material extremely fast.

  3. Rick Bunt is a rare combination: a genius, a great teacher, and totally adorable. This class is certainly a lot of work, and it's almost impossible if you get behind, but the material is cool and the exams are fair. Especially with mechanism problems, you just have to think through what would be reasonable for you to know. There won't be anything on there that you weren't expected to study. Rick's lectures are totally organized, color-coded, and he really thinks about what kind of presentation will be the most clear. He is very caring and considerate and if you're willing to work, this can be a great class.
  4. I have mixed feelings about taking the second semester of Orgo with Bunt. He is an incredibly nice guy, a great professor and really funny in lecture. However, his tests and quizzes are pretty difficult (very comprehensive - don't expect to get by without knowing all of the material). I would argue that it is better to have Byers for the second semester if you can swing it...
  5. Obviously there's a lot of work entailed, but Professor Bunt does a great job of explaining everything. His lectures were very organized which was nice. Read the chapters in advance before lecture (if you can), keep up with some problems, and go to lecture. Do this and you'll be fine. His tests are very fair too. The emphasis is almost exclusively on reactions and mechanisms, which I found to be easier than first semester orgo. Overall this class was great-probably because Bunt is an amazing professor.
  6. this class was a ton of work and you definitely have to keep up with the practice problems for the weekly quizzes. the midterms were really fair and often had a few probs from the quizzes. bunt is a great lecturer and very clear/organized professor!
  7. The second semester of orgo focuses a lot more on reactions. I didn't like this class at all in the beginning but by the second semester, the material was a lot more interesting. Stay on top of the reading, do some problems, and you'll be okay.
  8. This is a wonderful class. It's a lot of work but if you keep up with the problems throughout the semester it pays off in the end. Rick Bunt is an excellent teacher who made a lot of people like organic chemistry which from what I've heard from other schools is really hard to do. His tests were also very fair. Tage, the lab professor, is also amazing - everyone loved him. Even if you don't want to take Orgo find a way to meet this man!!
