Evaluation Comments for Graf, R

  1. Roman was pretty awesome, but the class was frankly not all that I'd heard it was cracked up to be. Yes, it's true -- he has arguably the most contagious enthusiasm for his subject matter of anyone at this school. He's also quite intelligent, and he's good at facilitating discussion. Finally, his main goal truly is to help you learn, which is incredible. However, I was really frustrated with the exams in this class, and after having talked to him about it, it's not going to change -- basically, you have to memorize about 30 author's names, their dates, and their major works, and then regurgitate them -- it's like middle school. With that single complaint out of the way, I would say this is an excellent class. The other assessments are short, focused essays (one per book, so about 6), which are interesting and that he lets you rewrite. So essentially, this class is mostly really good with the drawback that exams are very trivial, but you will learn a lot and he is wonderful even to be around, so I highly recommend you take this.
