Evaluation Comments for Beyer T

  1. Totally unexpected class- Beyer is great!! A lot of reading, but he presents it well and doesn't get into the nitty-gritty line by line analysis that some teachers get caught up on. If you do all the reading and are prepared for class you will get a good grade.
  2. Following the liberal arts mentality, this course was one of those "cross your fingers" selections on Bannerweb that filled my schedule. It turned out to be an incredible class. No tests or quizzes, but that's not the highlight of the class. We read sections of books for each day and had a response paper (1 pg single spaced) due in class. The Russian mentality is much different than what Americans are used to, and I found it fascinating (but not appealing!). It's a different approach to education, and the class discussions were valuable. Beyer is hilarious!!
  3. This course is fascinating, although the amount of reading Beyer assigns can be ridiculous. There are response papers for every class, and THEY ARE YOUR GRADE. There was no exam. If you do something significant in your responses and contribute to class, you'll be fine. You don't even have to do all the reading to do those things, either. He's a very cool professor. Just be wary of point-blank questions about the reading!
