  2. Professor West is a legend on campus...his lectures on the Russian Revolution inspired me so much that I started Russian the following year. He has a complicated reputation among students...people tend to love him or hate him.
  3. This course was actually co-taught by J. West and Paul Monod. I generally found the lectures from both professors fascinating, and I was impressed by their ability to keep a very large lecture class's attention for 75 mins. West takes a very divergent path in his discussion sections, which is often fascinating but can make it hard to stay on top of everything. It's easy to think that you can get away without doing any of the regular class's reading, but it might come back to bite you around exam time.
