  1. I actually really liked Macey. He's pretty tough and expects a lot from his students, but if you can handle these expectations and demands then you'll almost definitely learn tons about reading, writing and of course Russia.
  2. David Macey is a special kind of teacher. After years of teaching senior seminars, he expect a lot, and possibly to much from his freshman. 300-500 pages of weekly reading and a 3 page paper requireing multiple drafts this will be one of your most instenive workloads. on the other hand, it is intersting and you do learn a fair bit, but i would storngly suggust doing some background reading into russia post 1991- you'll need it.
