Evaluation Comments for Spritzer M

  1. Way too much material. Everything I hate about education, neatly packed into 12 weeks. Obscene amounts of memorization and PowerPoints. Marginal discussion. This course is a runaway train.
  2. the lab practicals were brutal beyond belief, but i think he's toning them down for next semester. the lectures are kind of boring - he just reads off of powerpoints, but the way he presents the information is helpful. he's a really nice guy and knows a ton. i'd recommend it, but only if you need it for your major.
  3. All this class is is memorizing lists. The lists for the lectures are interesting, but unless you are going to medical/veterinary school, the lab practicals are brutal. This class is a time-suck. You can get an A if you just dump enough time on it. It was also a very, very poor choice not to hire a TA for this class.
  4. WARNING this class has an intense study load. They will try and cram just about everything know about the evolution of vertebrates. That being said if you like animals this class is a must do. SPritzer is a nice guy but unsympathetic. MAKE SURE YOU START REVIEWING FOR TESTS AND LABS AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE. THIS IS A TOUGH CLASS.
  5. Mark is really friendly, helpful, and excited about the material. That being said, the lab practicals are intense and require some real crunch work. Exams were really really easy and the final paper takes some serious research. I would recommend if you need an organismal, otherwise it's not worth it--you'll forget everything within a couple months.
  6. Mark is an awkward guy and gives way WAY too much work, but this class is absolutely fascinating and allows all your childhood wonders and questions to be answered. It is definitely a course for a Biology Major. It is worth all the work in the end I promise!!!
